Changes to the Elvanse range of medicines

Primary tabs

There has been an important update regarding the prescribing and dispensing of Elvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate).

The manufacturer, Takeda, has now consolidated Elvanse Adult  and Elvanse into one single brand, Elvanse.

This means that Elvanse Adult is no longer available in the UK and Elvanse is now licensed for use in patients aged 6 years and above, covering both children and adults.

Advice for Pharmacy Teams

  • Pharmacies will only need to stock Elvanse, making supply simpler for both patients and healthcare professionals
  • If you have stock of Elvanse Adult it can still be used on prescriptions specifying this version but once stock is no longer obtainable prescriptions will need to be returned to the prescriber for amendment to Elvanse
  • Any old stock of Elvanse Adult that has expired will need to be denatured and disposed of in line with the legal controlled drug process as detailed in the Numark SOP:

CD4 Disposal of unwanted controlled drugs SOP
