A falsified batch of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) KwikPen 15mg solution for injection has been found in the UK, supplied through a single online pharmacy, The Private Pharmacy Clinic in Birmingham. The affected pens carry batch number D873576, which is a genuine batch code for the 7.5mg strength but has been falsely applied to 15mg pens.
The issue came to light after multiple reports of faulty devices, where the dose knob detached during use. Five defective pens have been identified so far. The MHRA has issued precautionary advice for healthcare professionals and patients.
Advice for Pharmacies
- Healthcare professionals are urged not to supply any 15mg pens labelled with batch D873576, to quarantine and return remaining stock to the supplier, and to report any suspected defective devices via the Yellow Card scheme. Although the pens are likely to contain tirzepatide, the MHRA warns they do not meet quality or safety standards and should not be used.
- Patients who have received Mounjaro 15mg are advised to check the batch number, discontinue use if it matches D873576, and report the pen to the MHRA. The regulator notes that no cases of serious harm have been reported, but advises patients to remain alert for signs of allergic reactions or infection and seek medical advice if unwell.
